2021 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2021MIECF) Supplementary Information

Keynote speakers

The 2021MIECF has invited Dong Mingzhu, Chairperson and President of Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai and the UN’s “Messenger of Sustainable Urban Development”, as the keynote speaker. She will deliver a keynote speech themed “The transformation of manufacturing industry under the ‘double carbon’ target” at the opening ceremony. She will discuss and share her opinions on the prospects for reinforced co-operation between the manufacturing industries of Zhuhai and Macao on the innovation of green technologies and the development of the green industry within their own closed-loop industrial chains of green research and development, manufacturing, consumption and recycling, against the backdrop of the two key national goals of “peak carbon emissions” and “carbon neutrality”.

As Chairperson and President of Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai, Dong Mingzhu has been designated by the United Nations as “Messenger of Sustainable Urban Development” and appointed as the first Rotating Chairperson of the UNDP Private Sector Advisory Board. She is also Member of the Committee of Experts for the 13th Five-Year Plan for the National Development and Reform Commission and a delegate to the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th National People’s Congresses.

● Online business matching service

The 2021MIECF will incorporate an online business matching service, and provide separated online business matching rooms on site for exhibitors and traders who cannot attend the event in person to arrange “online-offline” and “online-online” one-on-one business matching.

Since online business matching is not subject to geographic constraints, it will be arranged before the commencement of MIECF this year, lasting 14 days from 25 July to 7 August. It aims to provide exhibitors and buyers with an online platform for business communication and negotiation, in a bid to establish business connections and expand co-operation opportunities.

● Green Business Co-operation Day

The Green Business Co-operation Day is scheduled for the afternoon of 5 August. The activities include Session 1 of the Green Forum and the Business Exchange. The Green Forum features thematic forums and business opportunity forums.

The thematic forum will be attended by Director of the United Nations University Institute in Macao Huang Jingbo, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of China Everbright Environment Group Limited Luan Zusheng, Vice-Chairman of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation Li Bin, and Vice-Director of the Research Department of International Markets and Research Fellow of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Co-operation Xu Yingming, who will interpret from a macro perspective the global and national targets and policies pertaining to the reduction of pollution and carbon emissions, and explain how related industries can achieve their goals of carbon emissions reduction through technological innovation.

The business opportunity discussion session will be attended by António Trindade, Founding President of the Macao Association of Environmental Protection Industry and CEO of Macau’s CESL Asia Investments and Services Limited, Benson Lam, Chief Operating Officer of MECOM Power and Construction Limited and MUCHARGING (Macau) Limited, and Scott Yu, Sales Director for South China of VONTRON MEMBRANE Technology Co., Ltd., who will discuss how innovative technologies can be used as an impetus to promote green production and put into practice the concept of green development in every facet of life.

● Green Forum

Session 2: The “14th Five-Year” Environmental Plan and the Path to the Future

This forum continues to be collaboratively held with the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, and will take place on the morning of 6 August. As this year marks the start of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, the forum has invited a number of guest speakers in related fields to introduce the environmental protection policies of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. The guests include Deputy Director-General of the Department of General Affairs Wan Jun under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, Director of the General Office, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China Zheng Weibo, Director of the Department of Solid Wastes and Chemicals Mr. Wen Xuefeng under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, Deputy Director of the Department of Climate Change Wang Tie under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, and Deputy Director of the Laboratory of Atmospheric Environment Research Centre, South China Institute of Environmental Sciences Sun Jiaren under Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China.

Session 3: Pan-Pearl River Delta Environmental Protection Industry Conference for Co-operation and Exchange

This session will be held on the morning of 6 August. It will introduce and analyse the advantages of the environmental protection industry in the Pan-Pearl River Delta provinces, the profile and demand of Macao’s environmental protection market, Macao’s business environment and settlement policies, etc., and provide a platform for in-depth one-on-one exchanges between the two sides to facilitate the development of green and low-carbon industries.

Session 4: Clean Energy, Clean Air: an Investment for the Future

This session will be held on the afternoon of 6 August, themed “Clean Energy, Clean Air: an Investment for the Future”. It will be attended by a large number of experts and scholars, including Gui Huaqiao, Deputy Director of the Environmental Optics Centre of the Anhui Institute of Optics and Mechanics, Hefei Institute of Material Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Luo Daqing, Deputy General Manager of Sinopec Economic and Technological Research Institute Co., Ltd.; Zhu Haojun, Deputy Director of the Institute of Energy Strategy and Policy, Energy Development Research Institute, China Southern Power Grid; and Edmond Etchri, Director of the Generation Department – Companhia de Electricidade de Macau – CEM, S.A. They will share their views on clean energy and air quality improvement, so that participants can learn about the development trajectory of related industries in recent years and explore the relationship between clean energy and air quality improvement.

● Conference live streaming and certificates of attendance

The opening ceremony of the 2021MIECF, the keynote speech, and Sessions 1, 2 and 4 of the Green Forum will all be broadcast live online. This year’s MIECF will continue to apply for professional accreditation for designated forums (Sessions 1, 2 and 4), and certificates of attendance will be issued to online and offline participants.

● Green Public Day

The last day of the 2021MIECF (7 August) is the Green Public Day. Free admission will provide to the general public to facilitate their understanding of the latest environmental developments, technologies and trends in Macao and neighbouring regions. A series of on-site promotional and educational activities related to environmental protection are also available, including environmental workshop, family games, green guided tour service, recycled articles exhibition area, and lucky draw.

● Technical visit

On the last day of the 2021MIECF (7 August), all registered participants may join in the technical visit to the Cotai Ecological Zones or the Macao Electronic and Electrical Equipment Recycling Treatment Facility, to learn more about the environment-related work and infrastructure in Macao.

● Concurrent forums

The Technology and Mechanism Innovation under the National Carbon Neutral Vision will be held on the afternoon of 5 August. Representatives from governments, research institutes, and industries are invited to discuss upon topics including carbon neutrality, technological innovation, climate investment and financing, carbon trading. In addition, the Inauguration Ceremony of the Low-Carbon and Green Hotel Development Alliance will be staged concurrently.

The Green Finance Summit will be held from 6 to 7 August. Attendees will share their insights into the macro status, development potential and innovative instruments of green finance both online and offline, and offer suggestions for green financial development in Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. There will be thematic forums, protocol signing ceremonies, and roundtable forums during the summit.

● Transport arrangements

The 2021MIECF offers free all-electric shuttle buses to comply with environmental protection principles. The buses will travel between the event venue and the stops at Rua do Dr. Pedro José Lobo (near The Macau Square), Rua do Mercado de Iao Hon (near the iSQUARE Computer Plaza), Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida (near Pak Wai Bus Stop) and Rua de Seng Tou (near Urbanização Jardim Nova Taipa Block 21), to support green transport. Shuttle buses departing every 45 minutes from the stops are available from 9:00 to 15:45, and those departing from the event venue are available from 11:15 to 18:00. Free parking is available at Hall D of The Venetian Macao on a “first-come, first-served” basis due to limited availability.

● Anti-epidemic measures

To assist with anti-epidemic work, the 2021MIECF will adopt a series of anti-epidemic measures. All staff members and participants are required to wear a mask, present their Macao Health Code, and take temperature checks. There will be alcohol-based hand rubs provided at the event venue, and communal facilities and areas will be sprayed with long-acting antibacterial disinfection coatings. Crowd control measures will also be taken when necessary.
