Exploring Environmental Planning in Green Forums

The second day of the “2022 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition” (2022MIECF) was held today (10 December) with three Green Forum sessions, where a number of experts, scholars and industry representatives shared their insights on current important issues on environmental protection.

In the morning, the second session of the forum, “The ‘14th Five-Year’ Environmental Plan and the Path to the Future”, was held in collaboration with the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China. The speakers shared their experiences and views on topics such as zero-waste city building, jointly building a beautiful Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, carbon market construction and operational progress in China, and the situation and outlook on the construction of ecological civilisation.

The participating guests expressed their hope to promote ecological protection through improving various measures. In particular, enhancing the quality of the ecosystem, strictly controlling and preventing environmental risks, making use of laws and regulations to improve environmental governance capacity, and strengthening international co-operation to build a beautiful green world. In building a beautiful Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the construction of a high quality living area has achieved certain results, as well as green finance. The three regions, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have already started a lot of work in promoting ecological protection in the Greater Bay Area, and are jointly making contributions to the construction of a beautiful world-class bay area.

Some guests also expressed the view that social development may at the same time affect the ecological environment. China is also concerned about the related issues and has set “dual carbon” goals, and actively promotes the construction of ecological civilisation. In the meantime, it has accelerated the promotion of green and low-carbon development, built an eco-environmental system with the participation of all parties, promoted carbon trading, and pushed forward the construction of the Green Belt and Road and related co-operation.

In the third session of the forum, the “Pan-Pearl River Delta Session” has invited representatives of the Pan-Pearl environmental industry associations and member enterprises from the nine provinces, as well as representatives of relevant associations and enterprises of the environmental industry in Macao. They were invited to present content such as the advantages of the environmental industry in Pan-Pearl provinces, the overview and demand of the environmental industry in Macao, the business environment, household registration policy, etc. The forum provides a platform for the industry to understand the needs and potential of the environmental market in various regions, and to explore co-operation opportunities. The participants analysed the progress of environmental work in their respective regions and the problems they faced, and shared their experiences and ideas to jointly promote the development of the environmental industry.

In addition to allowing more overseas audiences to participate through live-streaming, MIECF will continue to apply for professional accreditation for designated forums and issue certificates of attendance to online and offline attendees, effectively leveraging MIECF’s role as a platform for professional knowledge sharing.
