Professor Guo Xusheng, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Deputy Chief Geologist of Sinopec (Mainland China)

Topic: Progress and Potentials of Shale Gas Exploration and Production in China

Professor Guo Xusheng graduated from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, majoring in Geology. He has mainly engaged in research and exploration of comprehensive petroleum geology. He is a Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Deputy Chief Geologist of Sinopec (professor-level senior engineer) and the Chief of the Sinopec Petroleum Exploration and Production Research Institute.

Professor Guo has presided over and completed a number of national major special scientific research projects, and made important progress and breakthroughs in the theoretical and technical research and practice of shale gas and ultra-deep natural gas exploration. He discovered Fuling Gas Field – the first large shale gas field, and Yuanba gas field – the first ultra-deep reef gas field in China.

Professor Guo edited 4 books and published 47 papers. He won three first prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Awards, one special prize and four first prizes of the Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards, Heliang Heli Science and Technology Progress Awards, Li Siguang Geological Science Awards and Shale Oil and Gas International Pioneer Awards.
